Greg Natale’s second residential project in Mosman, New South Wales, makes its print debut in Issue 15 of The Local Project. Looking to transform their typically modern, all-white family home, the owners approached Greg Natale to manifest a space full of meaningful colour and tonal depth. Upon first glance, the exterior may suggest otherwise; a hulking, monolithic concrete mass that is a stark, brutalist contrast to the surrounding greenery. Despite its heavy exterior, the inside of Mosman II is light and airy. In the entrance foyer, floating stairs and large skylights bestow an ethereal openness to the home. Oriented to overlook Sydney’s sparkling blue waters, several of Mosman II’s three levels cater to integrated indoor-outdoor living: large windows, a balcony, and a patio complete with an infinity pool. In homage to the coastal location, a palette of sky blues and forest greens bloom in various rooms, most noticeably in the kitchen where a custom island finished in a vibrant green quartzite brings flashes of colour to enliven the black, grey and white foundation. For a feminine touch to balance the hard-edge architecture, lilac and blush accessories complete each room. These curated layers of colour and texture balance two distinct styles, resulting in a cutting-edge home that is warm and welcoming̣.
